A company's permit count divided by the total permit count across all companies in your current scope. If Company A has 100 permits out of 5,000 total in view, their market share is 2%.
Tier is based on each company's real share of total permit volume across your full territory over the trailing 12 months — not on how many other companies happen to be in view. Companies are ranked by volume, and however many it takes to reach the top 50% of all territory permits are Dominant; the next group out to 90% of volume is Moderate; the remaining long tail of low-volume companies is Weak. This means the Dominant group isn't a fixed count or a fixed fraction of companies — some markets have a handful of truly dominant players, others have dozens — it's whatever the real concentration of business actually is. A company's tier is fixed to this territory-wide, trailing-12-month calculation, so it stays the same no matter which date range, county, or municipality filter you're currently viewing — only the permit counts and dollar totals shown change with your filters, not the tier badge itself.
Compares permit volume in your selected date range to an equal-length period immediately before it. A 90-day range compares to the 90 days before that; a custom 6-month range compares to the 6 months before it. Because this is a percentage of a small number for most companies, a swing can look dramatic (2 permits to 5 reads as "+150%") without meaning much - Top Movers and Market Signals require a company to have at least 10 permits in the current period AND at least 5 in the prior period before a swing counts as a real trend at all, then rank qualifying companies by permits actually gained or lost, not by the percentage itself, so a genuinely large mover (e.g. 12 to 115 permits) isn't outranked by a smaller company whose tiny starting point produces a flashier-looking percentage (e.g. 1 to 30 permits). Market Signals additionally only tags a company Surging or Pulling Back if that swing is bigger than ±30%.
The scrolling bar at the top combines three things: Surging (Trend above +30%) and Pulling Back (Trend below -30%), both restricted to companies with at least 10 permits now AND at least 5 in the prior comparison period - a real baseline on both sides, not just a floor on the current count, so a company with almost no history (e.g. 1 permit jumping to 30) doesn't show a dramatic-looking but meaningless percentage. Among qualifying companies, the ones featured are picked by permits actually gained or lost, not by raw percentage, so a genuinely large mover isn't crowded out by a smaller company whose tiny starting point produces a bigger-looking number. The number of companies with at least one permit in the real trailing 30 days, as of today — this one stays fixed regardless of what date range you have selected, since it's meant to answer "who's active right now," not "who was active in some other window."
Flagged when a company's earliest permit on file in this scope falls within the last 90 days, and they have at least 3 permits on file. The 3-permit minimum exists so a single stray or misfiled record doesn't get read as a new market entrant.
Sum and average of the job values recorded on each permit in your current scope. A permit with no job value on file isn't counted in either figure.
Reflects each contractor's state licensing status on file (Active/Inactive), along with the license expiration date and any DBA (doing-business-as) name on record, where a match exists.
Pins are placed using the property address on file for each permit. Multiple permits at the same large property (an apartment or condo complex, for example) can land on the same point when individual unit numbers aren't part of the address on file — the location is still accurate to that property, just not resolved down to a specific unit.
Permit records for these three counties are refreshed daily. Historical depth varies by area and keeps expanding over time - some areas already reach back to 2011, others are still being extended. "Last Permit" and "Active" figures reflect whatever was on file as of the most recent refresh.
